SS Great Britain
the weather was pretty chilly yesterday, but we still made our way to visit the SS Great Britain, a ship museum in Bristol. this ship designed by I. K. Brunnel, was launched on July 19th, 1843. SS Great Britain was the first ocean going, propeller-driven, iron ship in history. in its working life, it served as a luxury liner, an emigrant ship, a troop ship, a cargo vessel and a storage warehouse for over a century. this ship was abandoned for years before being towed back to Bristol and now being restored to her original 1843 appearance.

this visit was refreshing, a close encounter with heritage conservation, historical artefacts and oral history. it was interesting to be able to choose the audio recordings of the various classifications (first class, third class, sinbad the cat & marine conservator). we listened to audio recordings as we maneuvered around the ship. fun! i learnt another lesson in history.
